Adriana is a wedding photographer, and a good friend of mine out of Nashville. So when she and Mitchell started dreaming about how to mark their marriage, they already knew exactly what mattered most. Not a reception. Not a guest list. The art they would hang on a wall and keep for the rest of their lives.

The decision

Art over
a party

They had already made it official at the courthouse. This was the part they actually cared about. Instead of spending on a single day that ends at midnight, they wanted something permanent. Something their daughter could look at one day and feel.

Adriana had been hunting for a photographer in the Pacific Northwest who shot the way she wanted her own elopement to feel, and kept coming up empty. One conversation later, we realized the right person had been a phone call away the whole time. So the three of them flew to Washington, and we went looking for the most epic light the Olympic Peninsula had to offer.

The Hall
of Mosses

We started deep in the Hoh Rainforest, under the canopy of the Hall of Mosses. Moss hangs off every branch like something out of a fairy tale, and the light comes down green and soft. It is one of the only temperate rainforests on earth. Standing in it with the two of them, it did not feel real.

This was never about
one day. It was about
something to keep.

Rialto
Beach

From the rainforest we drove west until the trees opened onto the Pacific. Sea stacks rising out of the fog, driftwood the size of cars, the ocean throwing itself at the shore. If the Hall of Mosses was intimate, this was pure scale. The two of them, small against all of it, and completely at home.

The morning
after

The next morning we met again at Lake Crescent, the water that impossible shade of blue green and the mountains still waking up. A quieter, slower kind of adventure to close out the trip, and the Pacific Northwest most people never slow down enough to see.

Artful.
Adventurous.
Epic.

Adriana and Mitchell spent their money on the one thing that outlasts a wedding day. Not a party, but artwork for their walls and, one day, for their daughter. That is the whole idea. And it was entirely theirs.
